Updating a Old Hutch

New post here today folks.  I feel I've been in hiding but really I've been working on many projects and I found myself with too many things going on at once. I hate when I do that to myself. I work best with a list. Checking off as I go. Too much here and there and I get flustered big time.

My wreath making is going great and little by little I'm getting my craft room the way I want it. That's what I'm talking about today. I finally finished another piece to the plan.

I bought this Hutch about a year ago off Craigslist.  It's a old Hutch that was in pretty good condition. But I like to paint. Crazy I know....but I LOVE the difference a coat or two of paint can make on just about anything.

Normally I would take this out to the garage but decided to just do it in house. I put down some paper and a drop cloth and got to work removing the hardware. I didn't realize how bad the hinges on this thing was until I tried removing them and several screws broke in the process.

I only sanded a little bit on this piece. Mainly the grimy dirty areas under the drawer pulls. Then I used a good coat of primer. Ahhh...already better.

After priming I started painting using a small roller on the big surfaces and a good quality brush on the smaller areas. This took a couple coats of paint. I let the paint cure for a couple of days then scuffed up some edges for a shabby chic sorta look. Then I put a coat of Poly over that and let her sit for a good 4 to 5 days. If you don't do this your piece will be sticky and when you sit things on the wood it will leave indents and that'll make you sick. Don't ask how I know this.

I painted the inside white then covered the back of the cabinets with a pretty contact paper.

I had planned to replace the hinges but had no luck in finding them after searching several stores. Mike was able to do a amazing job cleaning them and making them look new again. It was incredible! Thanks honey! I couldn't believe they were the same ones and again I'm sorry I should have taken a picture. I promise I will get better. The only problem was they were brass and I hate brass. Sorry brass lovers but I just don't like it so I gave them a quick coat of paint. New knobs from Hobby Lobby and pulls from Lowes and she was done.

I'm really happy with how it turned out. I love trying to make things look prettier and I think she does. This room isn't complete yet but its getting there. I love to having a pretty place to keep my supplies and a pretty place to CREATE.
